Discussion Te otoliths of the many extant species of Liza are poorly known and apparently difficult to distinguish depending on relatively few and delicate traits. Otoliths of the extant west African species L. grandisquamis (Valenciennes, 1836) and L. falcipinnis (Valenciennes, 1836) are figured in Veen and Hoedemakers (2005) and resemble much the specimens from Dar bel Hamri.
