Discussion Otoliths of V. chirophthalma are recognized by their compressed, high-bodied shape (OL:OH = 1.0– 1.15) combined with a flat inner face, a convex outer face and a small, morphologically much reduced sulcus. Today, V. chirophthalma occurs only along the tropical coast of West Africa from Guinea-Bissau to Angloa.
