Discussion Te figured specimen lacks most of the dorsal portion but is the better preserved one of the two fragments. Te regularly curved and somewhat undulating ventral rim is similar to the appearance in extant otoliths of H. hygomi . Tis species has commonly been recorded from the Mediterranean Pliocene following the synonymization of the fossil otolith-based Hygophum agrigentense Schwarzhans, 1978 , with the extant H. hygomi by Brzobohatý and Nolf (1996). It is likely that the specimens from Dar bel Hamri represent the same species.
