Etymology. Named for the different patterns of colors of the body (L. variegatus – of different colors)
Diagnosis. Antennae light brown ( Fig. 3 C). Humeral angles well-developed and never black; apices acute ( Fig. 3 C). Corium with veins in a clear “Y” close to a small spot ( Fig. 3 C). The first three segments of connexivum with anterior and posterior parts green to dark brown separated by yellow stripes; sixth and seventh segments with black stripes on anterior and posterior parts separated by a yellow stripe; area between segments III-VI calloused with a small yellow spot ( Fig. 3 C). Ventral surface yellowish with suffused spots ( Fig. 3 D). Propleura with black lines around the base of procoxae ( Fig. 3 D). Area of evaporatorium with a big dark spot occupying most of its area ( Fig. 3 D). Legs yellow to dark brown or black ( Fig. 3 D). Male: parameres very swollen, spearhead-shaped with tiny carina on the apex ( Fig. 14 D, E); superior process of the genital cup elongated, triangular ( Fig. 14 E); posterior face of proctiger pentagonal and ventrally bent ( Fig. 14 D, E). Female genital plates: mesial borders excavation wide, almost as large as valvifers IX ( Fig. 14 F).
Description. Head. Apex of mandibular plates with a small dark spot ( Fig. 3 D). Apex of clypeus slightly yellowish ( Fig. 3 C). Antennal segments formula: V>IV>III>II>I.
Thorax. Pronotum green with shallow and brown punctation ( Fig. 3 C). Scutellum with deep and brown punctation ( Fig. 3 C). Corium lateral margins yellow ( Fig. 3 C). Membrane of the hemelytra dark brown ( Fig. 3 C). Metasternal process flat; anterior arms divergent, with rounded apices, receiving fourth and part of third segments of the rostrum ( Fig. 14 C).
Abdomen. Distal part of seventh abdominal segment with black spot covering almost ½ of the segment ( Fig. 3 C). Area between abdominal segments and pseudosutures much darker than adjacent areas ( Fig. 3 D).
Male ( Fig. 14 A, B, D, E, G). Pygophore. Superior process of the genital cup partially visible in dorsal view, black ( Fig. 14 A). Proctiger strongly excavated on laterals, excavation with tiny setae; dorsal face delimited distally by a triangular carina; posterior face wrinkly ( Fig. 14 D, E). Ventral rim strongly excavated with a medial dark spot ( Fig. 14 B).
Female ( Figs. 14 F, 15 E). Valvifers VIII strongly punctate and setose on medial region; margin of valvulae VIII visible; distal margin straight ( Fig. 14 F). Valvifers IX base notched, very setose ( Fig. 14 F). Laterotergites IX slightly swollen and setose; in the same level of the seventh segment ( Fig. 14 F). Capsula seminalis with three teeth ( Fig. 15 E).
Comments. The coloration of the legs varies between specimens ranging from yellowish to dark brown or even black. Another variation found is the color of the first three segments of the connexivum that can change from green to dark brown ( Fig. 3 C).
Distribution ( Fig. 17). ECUADOR: Napo; VENEZUELA: Guárico, Bolívar; BRAZIL: Amazonas, Pará, Maranhão, Rondônia, Mato Grosso.
