Diagnosis: Males of Z. atlanticum can be distinguished from other relatives in the rubidum group by the embolus and its subterminal tooth, both with truncated tips ( Fig. 14B View FIGURE 14 ). Females, on the other hand, can be identified by a combination of characters, including the convergent postero-lateral margins of the epigyne ( Figs 15H View FIGURE 15 , 17B View FIGURE 17 ), and the short septum ( Figs 15H View FIGURE 15 , 17B View FIGURE 17 ).
Description: For a detailed description of the habitus and male palp, refer to Pekár & Cardoso (2005). Epigyne ( Fig. 17B View FIGURE 17 ): Epigynal plate sub-trapezoidal, anteriorly limited by an antero-median chitinous ridge. The ridge anteriorly accompanied by a wedge-shaped structure. Epigynal plate posteriorly widened, laterally S-shaped. Epigyne with a short longitudinal septum, posteriorly elongated toward the epigynal plate. Epigyne accompanied by a pair of copulatory openings on antero-lateral sides of the septum. These copulatory openings linked to a pair of lateral pits by connecting grooves.
Molecular data:
COI mitochondrial barcodes (Genbank accession): KX954299, MT370090 , PP373358, PP373359.
Maximum intraspecific COI divergence (n=4): 1.3 %. Minimum interspecific divergence (to Z. gregua ): 4.6%. Consensus COI distance to the closest species (to Z. styliferum ): 3.1%.
Distribution: Portugal, Azores.
