Type material examined. Syntype FRANCE and SPAIN: 1♂, 4♀, 6 juv., labeled as “El Escorial, La Granja, La Rhune, Sabres, Cap Ferret”, MNHN-AR9907 , 301 , examined .
Other material examined. PORTUGAL: 1♀ (only dissected epigyne), together with paralectotype of Z. viduum , labeled as “ Porto and Lisboa ”, MNHN-AR1518 . SPAIN: 1♀, Valle del Saja , Cantabria, 500 m a.s.l., 21. VI .1997, J. Murphy & F. Murphy leg., MMUM-22255, G7572.18298; 1♂, 8♀, Collado de Hozi , Cantabria, 500 m, 1.VII.1997, J. Murphy & F. Murphy leg., MMUM-22512, G7572.19891 .
Diagnosis: Zodarion fuscum males can be distinguished from other members of the rubidum group by their bladder-shaped tibial apophysis, which is ventrally widened in the retrolateral view ( Fig. 14L View FIGURE 14 ), and the hook-shaped embolus ( Fig. 14L View FIGURE 14 ). Females can be distinguished by a combination of characters, including the presence of a small epigynal ridge ( Figs 15K View FIGURE 15 , 17E View FIGURE 17 ), and a short septum ( Fig. 17E View FIGURE 17 ).
Description: For a detailed description of the habitus and male palp, refer to Bosmans (1994). Epigyne ( Fig. 17E View FIGURE 17 ): Epigynal plate sub-trapezoidal, anteriorly limited by a broadened, antero-median chitinous ridge. The ridge anteriorly extended. Sides of the epigynal plate slightly S-shaped. Epigyne with a short, longitudinal septum, accompanied by a paired copulatory opening on antero-lateral sides of the septum.
