Type material examined. Lectotype FRANCE: 1♂, Digne, MNHN-314 . Paralectotypes 1♀, same collection data as for lectotype ; 14♂, 3♀, same collection data as for lectotype, MNHN-AR9898 , 314 .
Diagnosis: Zodarion timidum can be easily distinguished from other species within the rubidum group by its voluminous tibial apophysis with two teeth visible in the ventral view ( Fig. 13N View FIGURE 13 ), and the presence of a lamellar shield in the epigyne ( Figs 15F View FIGURE 15 , 17I View FIGURE 17 ).
Description: For a detailed description of the habitus and male palp, refer to Bosmans (1994). Epigyne ( Fig. 17I View FIGURE 17 ): Epigynal plate sub-quadrate, slightly widened posteriorly, anteriorly accompanied by a broad lamellar shield, with a large anterior pit. Epigyne with a pair of antero-lateral copulatory openings, slightly covered by the lamellar shield.
Molecular data:
COI mitochondrial barcodes (Genbank accession): KY010761 View Materials .
Minimum interspecific divergence (to Z. rubidum ): 7.6%. Consensus COI distance to the closest species (to Z. styliferum ): 3.8%.
Comment: According to Bosmans (1994), the type series was comprised of six (see Bosmans 1994: 130) or eight specimens (see Bosmans 1994: 131), whereas our examination revealed 19 individuals.
Distribution: Spain, France.
