The taxonomic characters useful in distinguishing species of Striariidae were discussed by Shear (2020), with reference to Striaria columbiana Cook, 1899 ( Virginia, USA). The members of the family may be easily recognized in the field by the broad, hooded collum ( col, Figs 1 View FIGURES 1–6 , 14 View FIGURES 12–15 ) and the crested pleurotergites ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 12–15 ). All presently known striariids have 30 pleurotergites.
