Sergentomyia ( Neophlebotomus) gemmea Lewis & Jeffery View in CoL
Se. ( Neo.) gemmea is a new country record for India. Holotype female was recorded from the Gunong Besout Forest Reserve, West Malaysia ( Knudsen et al. 1979). Paratypes were collected from swampy forest canopy, 8.5 m above ground. This species was also reported from Thailand ( Apiwathnasorn et al. 1989; Polseela et al. 2011; Sukra et al. 2012). During the survey, 52 specimens ( 19 males and 33 females) of Se. ( Neo.) gemmea were collected. Species identification was confirmed based on the anatomical features of cibarium and spermathecae of females and cibarium and genitalia of male specimens. Distribution of Se. ( Neo.) gemmea with date of collection in Andaman Islands is as follows: Chowldary (11°37” N and 92°39” E) in human dwelling ( 2 male and 4 female), V-24-2018; Nimbutala (12°30” N and 92°51” E, in tree hole ( 2 female), V-28-2018; Dhasarathpur (12°29” N and 92°54” E) in human dwelling ( 9 male and 11 female) and outdoor bushes ( 3 female), V-30-2018; Ramnagar (13°4” N 93°1 ” E) in human dwelling ( 2 male, 3 female), V-31-2018; Radha krishnan nagar (13°14” N and 92°59” E) in human dwelling ( 4 male and female 7), V-31-2018; Dobidare (12°54” N and 92°53” E) in human dwelling ( 2 male and 3 female), VI-02-2018. The collection localities were adjacent to swampy areas.
