Type:— MADAGASCAR. Central Madagascar , at Ankerimadinika in the province of Imerina, [Richard] Baron 1452, (holotype Herb. K), not available for examination online, recorded as “Type” by Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 55), here corrected to holotype ; (isotype Herb. P barcode P00374128 !, available for examination online at http://coldb.mnhn.fr/catalognumber/mnhn/p/p00374128) .

Nomenclatural notes:— Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 55) recorded the “ Type ” of the name Kitchingia amplexicaulis , basionym of Kalanchoe amplexicaulis , as “Baron 1452”. In the protologue of the name Kitchingia amplexicaulis, Baker (1883: 141) indeed mentioned a single gathering, “ Baron 1452!”, from “Central Madagascar ”. This specimen is not available for examination online.

Herb. P holds a [Richard] Baron 1452 specimen with barcode P 00374128 that is labelled “Fragment du Type ”. It was purchased from Herb. K in June 1889, which should not be construed as the collecting date. The material was received at Herb. P on 25 July 1890. The specimen, although labelled a “fragment”, is reasonably complete—it includes vegetative and reproductive—material.

Taxonomic notes:— Kitchingia amplexicaulis and Kalanchoe amplexicaulis are included in the synonymy of Kalanchoe campanulata ( Baker 1881: 269) Baillon (1885: 469) .

Kalanchoe campanulata is included in Kalanchoe subg. Pubescentes .
