Type species, Filistata hibernalis Hentz, 1842 .
Diagnosis. This genus belongs to the Filistatinae and differ from other Neotropical filistatids by great size ( 7–25 mm), calamistrum with setae on the sulcated area, conspicuous fovea, tarsal spines, and male palp with elongated tibiae and cymbium not fused to the tegulum ( Ramírez & Grismado 1997; 2008).
