Distribution. First record from Saudi Arabia. This species was described from Germany but the type locality has not been cited. It is widely distributed in the Holarctic and Australasian Regions with further records from South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire and Yemen ( Papp 1984a; Černý 2005; Deeming 2006; Kahanpää 2014; Ebejer 2021).
Remarks. This species feeds on cereals and grasses, often occurring in large numbers, but there is little information on its damage to hosts. It is characterized by considerable colour variation, resultings in its accidental re-description multiple times under different names ( Papp & Černý 2016: 67). Further information on its biology is given by Spencer (1973a:292) and Papp & Černý (2016). Harrison (1959) records it from New Zealand as an inadvertently introduced immigrant species that attacks barley ( H. vulgare L.), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) and perennial ryegrass ( Lolium perenne L.).
Host remarks. It is unknown.
