YEMEN: 2♂, al-Kadan, 3.xii-17.ii.1998, A. van Harten & H.M. Naser ( NMWC).
Distribution. First record from Saudi Arabia. It was described from Spain and Israel without host plant data. However, Benavent-Corai et al. (2005) gave host-plant data of material reared and larval description. In the Palaearctic Region it was recorded from Austria, Crete, Corfu, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Israel, Italy, Madeira, Spain, Turkey:Afrotropical Region; Gambia, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Yemen and Zambia: ( Spencer 1985; Černý & von Tschirnhaus 2014; Černý et al. 2018).
Remarks. The figures of the aedeagus in side view and from beneath appearing in the original description of Spencer 1973a and those of Kenyan material in Spencer 1985 differ slightly from one another. We were uncertain as to whether this was due to compression in the micromounts in which they were preserved. Since Dr. M.J.Ebejer on visiting the NHML kindly offered to examine the type material and Kenyan material, he briefly compared material from the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff collection from Turkey and Saudi Arabia with the male holotype and a female paratype and noted some subtle differences worthy of further study.
Host remarks. The reared Egyptian material of P. hispanica is from the Collection of the late Dr Samir El-Serwy and is preserved in NMWC, along with the specimens with their individual sorghum ( S. bicolor ) leaves containing their mines and Echinochloa .
