Distribution. Previously recorded from Saudi Arabia by Deeming (2006). New for the fauna of Botswana, Kenya, Oman and Yemen. It was described from Formosa ( Tainan, Takao) and was further recorded from the Palaearctic Region; Egypt, Iraq, Israel: Afrotropical Region; Sudan, Zimbabwe: Oriental Region; Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand: Australasian Region; New Guinea, ( Spencer 1973a; Papp 1984a; Deeming 2006; Černý 2023). It is widespread on Pacific Islands.

Host remarks. Spencer (1973a: 274, 1990; Benavent-Corai 2005) reported that the host plants of P. spicata are maize ( Zea mays L.) ( Poaceae ), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) ( Poaceae ), sugar cane ( Saccharum officinarum L.) ( Poaceae ), Panicum miliaceum L. ( Poaceae ) and in Hawaii, 14 species of wild grasses.
