Distribution. Previously recorded from Saudi Arabia by Deeming (2006). New for the fauna of Botswana, Kenya, Oman and Yemen. It was described from Formosa (Tainan, Takao) and was further recorded from the Palaearctic Region; Egypt, Iraq, Israel: Afrotropical Region; Sudan, Zimbabwe: Oriental Region; Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand: Australasian Region; New Guinea, ( Spencer 1973a; Papp 1984a; Deeming 2006; Černý 2023). It is widespread on Pacific Islands.

Host remarks. Spencer (1973a: 274, 1990; Benavent-Corai 2005) reported that the host plants of P. spicata are maize ( Zea mays L.) ( Poaceae ), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) ( Poaceae ), sugar cane ( Saccharum officinarum L.) ( Poaceae ), Panicum miliaceum L. ( Poaceae ) and in Hawaii, 14 species of wild grasses.
