Type material. Holotype: ♂, with labels and data: grey, handwritten in blue ink “ PHILIPPINES ” / “ROXAS Palawan ” / backside “locCOLL” / “white, black printed “ MAY 2001 ” / white, black printed “ Coll. Balkenohl ” ( CMBB).
Description. Measurements. Body length 4.35 mm, width 1.21 mm, ratio L/W of pronotum 0.97, ratio L/W of elytra 1.89. Colour glossy, fuscous. Supraantennal plate at the margin slightly translucent. Antennae, mouthparts, intermediate and hind legs yellowish.
Head about a sixth narrower than pronotum. Clypeus with central part straight, with distinctly projecting rounded teeth laterally, separated from clypeal-wing by distinct obtuse-angles notch; wing wider than teeth of clypeus, rounded, not as projecting as clypeal-teeth, separated from supraantennal plate by obtuse-angled notch, supraantennal plate with margin laterally convex, clypeus distinctly reflexed margined. Supraantennal plate extended posteriorly into blunt keel, separated from wing by flat furrow. Clypeus transverse, slightly convex, smooth, clypeal-furrow flattened. Frons completely flat, with flat pore-like depression at middle, separated from supraantennal plate by relatively narrow furrow, with clypeal seta in front; supraorbital carinae blunt, nearly continuing to flat frons, with two supraorbital setigerous punctures at middle of eye level and posterior to gena-level. Neck constriction open at middle, with distinct step laterally. Eye relatively small, somewhat flattened, more convex anteriorly, gena distinct, enclosing eye posteriorly by nearly one quarter.Antenna elongate, reaching up to base of pronotum. Labrum slightly excised anteriorly, laterally rounded, finely isodiametrically reticulated, six-setose. Mentum with lobes flat, distinctly convex laterally, slightly concave medially, indistinctly margined, with few askew fine carinae, median tooth wide, higher as lobe, hollowed out at tip, nearly rectangular.
Pronotum ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 38–52 ) with disk flattened in lateral view, flattened at middle and slightly to moderately convex laterally in frontal view. Shape sub-cordate, nearly as long as wide. Reflexed lateral margin sub-crenulate (100-fold), slightly convex at middle, widest at middle; anterior angle distinct, posterior angle indicated by distinct anteriorly projecting tooth; lateral channel moderately narrow, reticulated, continuing up to base as sharp, slightly convex margin. Median line complete, engraved. Anterior transverse line distinct laterally, fading at middle, indistinctly joining median line. Disk with finely scattered punctures, in basal half with group of median sized punctures, with fine transverse wrinkles laterally, with isodiametric reticulation at base and laterally, with posterior setigerous puncture somewhat removed from margin. Lateral margin from posterior angle to flange of base slanted with angle of around 45°. Basal channel on flange widened, rugose, with sharp carina.
Elytron ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 3–14 ) with disk flattened in anterior two thirds in lateral view, flattened at middle and slightly to moderately convex in frontal view. Shape of elytra elongate, nearly two times longer than wide, with lateral margin straight anterior middle but slightly diverging, maximum width posterior middle. Humerus distinct, rounded. Reflexed lateral margin finely crenulate posterior humerus. Row of setigerous punctures in the lateral channel somewhat more distant at middle, scutellar striole distinct; setigerous tubercle at base of first stria distinct, with small tubercle at base of third interval, basal declivity falling perpendicularly to pedunculus, with isodiametric reticulation. Striae moderately deep, impunctate, one to four free at base, five and six joining at humerus, one and two ending free at apex, three and four, and five and six joining apically. Intervals slightly convex, interval three with four setigerous punctures joining third stria, interval five joining lateral margin at humerus as short carina, interval seven convex at apex, eight carinate at apex. Surface of intervals two to eight with isodiametric reticulation, reticulation tapering in intensity towards middle, first interval nearly smooth.
Hind wing fully developed.
Lower surface. Proepisternum isodiametrically reticulated, completely covered with dense transverse wrinkles. Sternite of abdomen with isodiametric reticulation laterally, transverse at middle. Last visible sternite with the two marginal setigerous punctures widely separated, with moderately wide projection posteriorly at middle where it is slightly hollowed out, with narrow marginal furrow at middle.
Legs slender, protibia with fine longitudinal reticulation, with widened sulcus dorsally, with three spines, spatulate-like, with obtuse tooth, movable spur moderately arcuate, basal tarsomere slender at base, carinate, with acute tubercle with two setae and a small tubercle at middle of tarsomere. Intermediate tibia with nine tubercles at the lateral side, with slender spur near apex, all setae furnished. Tarsomeres of same width.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 83 View FIGURES 73–84 ). Median lobe relatively small, widened basally in dorsal and lateral view, moderately and regularly arcuate in basal half, indistinctly arcuate in apical half, apex arcuate at tip, in lateral view apically regularly and widely acuminate, somewhat flattened. Parameres slender, with moderately developed apophyses, slightly distorted towards apices, with small seta at apex, each.
Female gonocoxites and epipleurite unknown.
Variation unknown.
Distribution. Known from Roxas on the island of Palawan, Philippines.
Diagnosis. A small sized slender fuscous species with sub-cordate pronotum and intervals two to eight with isodiametric reticulation. A species sharing most of the basic characters is C. dilutureticulata sp. nov. However, and beside other characters, in C. dilutureticulata sp. nov. the frons of the head is moderately convex and covered with scattered fine punctures, the neck constriction is completely closed by a distinct sharp step, and the antennae are reaching over the base of the elytron.
Etymology. The name is a patronym in honour of Hannes Baur (NHMB) who provided me with full logistical support during the last years and helped me to localize material.
