Buprestodera inornata Miyatake, 1969: 212 .– Poorani 2002: 360.

Diagnosis. Length: 4.00– 4.50 mm; width: 3.15–3.40 mm. Form rounded oval, moderately convex, dorsal side glabrous except head with silvery white setae. Dorsal side uniform bright red to yellowish-orange, shiny, except head darker reddish brown, antennal club and maxillary palpi more or less piceous ( Figs 7a–c View FIGURE 7 , 8a View FIGURE 8 ). Ventral side reddish or brownish testaceous, legs piceous to blackish except tarsi dark reddish brown, tarsal claws yellowish brown. Abdominal ventrites, particularly ventrite 1, strongly punctured. Abdominal postcoxal lines complete, semicircular, evenly and deeply curved, coarsely punctate in anterior half ( Figs 7d View FIGURE 7 , 8c View FIGURE 8 ), form of postcoxal lines shows intraspecific variation ( Fig. 9a–d View FIGURE 9 ), or even asymmetry ( Fig. 9a View FIGURE 9 ). Female genitalia ( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 ), spermatheca ( Fig. 7f View FIGURE 7 ) and male genitalia ( Figs 8d–g View FIGURE 8 , 9e–i View FIGURE 9 ) as illustrated.

Material examined. S. India: Kerala St., Trivandrum Distr. , 900m, Ponmudi Ra., IV – V . 71, P.S. Nathan, 2 males, 1 female, 2 exx. ( NBAIR) .

Distribution. India: Kerala; Tamil Nadu (Anamalais; Nilgiri hills). Rarely collected, sympatric with B. mimetica .

Seasonal occurrence. Collected in May (label data).

Notes. Miyatake (1969) described it based on a single male specimen from Anamalai Hills. The shape and extent of the abdominal postcoxal lines was found to be somewhat variable in the specimens examined in this study, but the male genitalia were found to be identical.
