Description.—General body shape oval. Dorsum predominately black with pale orange markings on pronotum, corium and scutellum, those on the coria forming a distinct X-shaped pattern. Punctation thin, sparse, nearly impunctate on pale areas.
Head black with concolorous punctures. Paraclypei rounded apically, transversally striated with dark brown punctures, not extending beyond apex of anteclypeus. Eyes prominent. Ocelli rounded, orange. Anteclypeus with sporadic, long, yellow-brownish setae along lateral margins. Antennae black, first through third antennomeres thinner in diameter than remaining segments, segment I reaching or slightly surpassing apex of head. First three antennal segments with sparse long yellow-brownish setae, distal two segments with short, dense, yellow-brownish setae.
Pronotum subquadrangular, with anterolateral margins narrowly reflexed. Pronotum black with a pale yellowish submarginal band along anterior and anterolateral pronotal margins, this band is slightly elevated on anterior pronotal disk; black lateral band becoming progressively narrower towards each humerus. Humeral angles rounded, not prominent, each with a small cleft apically. Scutellum equilateral, with a transverse orange band along basal margin, punctation sparse. Hemelytra black with lateral and posterior margins of corium pale-yellow, and a pale submarginal band along claval suture, the pale markings forming a distinct Xshape; clavus black with three lines of dark punctures; hemelytral membrane fumose, extending slightly beyond end of abdomen. Ostiole round, peritreme short, auriculate; evaporatorium weakly rugulose, lacking punctuation; ostiolar plate laterad of evaporatorium slightly inflated, with a few weak rugae. Legs black, coxae small, without punctures or pilosity; femora thicker, with sporadic long, yellow-brownish setae; tibiae black with a distinct orange band near middle, and abundant yellow-brownish setae distally; tarsi with abundant, dense pilosity.
Abdominal dorsum black medially becoming orange laterally; connexival segments not exposed, uniformly orange, posterolateral angles of each segment rounded. Abdominal venter orange with segment three (second visible), and the last pregenital segment black (except laterally), remaining segments each with a broad black band on each side; spiracles lying distinctly in the orange lateral band, concolorous with surrounding surface; Pendergrast organs rounded.
Male genitalia: Posterior margin of pygophore obtusely convex, produced mesially ( Fig. 2), pygophoral surface transversely striated, provided with a few, sparse setae. Parameres small, cylindrical, pale. Female genitalia ( Fig.7): First gonocoxae black, longitudinally striated with yellow-brownish setae, D-shaped. Second gonocoxae very small, somewhat paler than first gonocoxae. Paratergites 9 triangular. Paratergites 8 elongate, with rounded edges, somewhat orange in color.

Distribution: Colombia, Ecuador.
Comments.— Tolono confusus is easily separated from T. pallidus by the completely different coloration of the dorsum. It is, however, very similar in general appearance to T. decoratus and can only be separated from that species by its more compact body and by the different shape of the pygophoral posterior margin. It is obtusely produced in T. confusus , whereas it is nearly straight in T. decoratus .
Etymology: From the Latin confusus meaning confusing. This name is assigned to this species because of the similar color pattern in this species and T. decoratus has (and may continue to) result in the two species being confused.
