Tolono decoratus Rolston and Kumar, 1975 View in CoL
( Figs. 1, 4)
Tolono decoratus Rolston and Kumar, 1975 82:276—278, figs. 8—15.
Tolono decoratus: Froeschner, 1981 , 322:9. (key and list)
Diagnosis.—Oval in shape, slightly wider posteriorly, dorsal surface black with pale yellow to orange markings forming a large X-shaped pattern on hemelytra ( Fig. 4). Rostrum reaching metacoxae. Spiracles brown, lying distinctly in orange lateral band in females, and in the juncture between the orange lateral band and the median dark areas in the males; specific coloration of the bands is variable among specimens. Posterior margin of pygophore when viewed from below, relatively straight and posterolateral angles subangulate ( Fig. 1).
Comments.—After careful study, we discovered that two paratypes of this species actually are specimens of our new species T. confusus , described below. The male holotype illustrated by Rolston and Kumar (1975) and all additional material examined of T. decoratus are from Loja Province, Ecuador, suggesting that this species may be restricted to this geographical area.
Material examined: Ecuador, Loja Province: 2500m, X-1977, Leg. L. E. Peña, 2 males, 1 female ( USNM) .
