Description.—General body shape oval. Dorsum bright pale orange to green with black markings on hemelytra, scutellum, and pronotum.

Head black with concolorous punctures, punctures relatively large, coarse on base of paraclypei, forming weak, transverse rugae on vertex and basal areas of clypei and paraclypei. Lateral margins of paraclypei sinuous, apices narrowly rounded, with a few yellow-brownish setae anteriorly, paraclypei not quite reaching apex of anteclypeus. Eyes prominent, reddish. Antennae dark brown to black; with many, short yellow-brownish colored setae on distal two segments, setae becoming longer and less dense on the basal three segments; segments four and five greater in diameter than basal three segments. First antennal segment reaches to or slightly beyond apex of clypeus.

Pronotum subquadrangular, anterior, anterolateral, and posterior margins narrowly black, except near humeral angles, remainder of pronotal disk pale whitish to orange. Posterior pronotal disk with fine, sparse punctation, cicatrices lacking punctures. Anterolateral pronotal margins narrowly reflexed, reflexation continuing along anterior margin forming a narrow collar behind head; each humeral angle with a feeble cleft. Scutellum greenish yellow with fine punctation, except for a few strong, deep punctures apically. Clavus black with three lines of dark brown punctures parallel to lateral margins of scutellum. Corium yellowish with fine, sparse punctation. Hemelytral membrane fumose, extending to or slightly beyond apex of abdomen. Evaporatorium weakly rugulose; ostiole rounded, peritreme very thin, without punctation. Ostiolar plate laterad of evaporatorium slightly inflated, weakly rugulose. Metepimeral pseudosuture with fine, sparse punctation. Legs black, provided with long, yellow-brownish pilosity; tibiae uniformly black or with at most an obscure, narrow pale band near middle.

Abdominal dorsum fuscous to black, connexiva uniformly colored, pale, concolorous with hemelytra; posterolateral angles rounded, not angulate or spinose; abdominal venter fuscous to black except narrow lateral band on each side pale yellow. Spiracles pale to light brown, lying just inside black medial area or in the juncture between black medial area and yellow lateral band. Pendergrast’s organs round shaped.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 3): pygophore ventrally brownish, with ventral margin straight to slightly undulated, posterolateral angles rounded, not prominent, with yellow-brownish colored pilosity. Parameres very short, convex, surface striated, distal edge with strong, dense yellow- brownish setae. Female genitalia (Fig.8): first gonocoxae striate, dark brown, with sporadic pilosity; each gonocoxite is D-shaped. Second gonocoxa half-moon shaped, paler than other genital plates. Paratergites 9 triangular, somewhat concave along posterior margin, light brown apically. Paratergites 8 straight, brown with yellow edges and sporadic punctation.

Measurements: Total length: 8.45- 8.04 (8.04); width: 4.38-4.15 (4.54); length of the head: 1.59-1.45(1.45); width of Head: 2.04-1.86(1.86). Scutellar length: 2.16-1.94 (1.94); scutellar width: 2.16-2 (2). Antennomeres: I: 0.64 (0.64); II: 0.68 (0.69); III: 0.65(0.65); IV: 1.11 (1.10); V: 1.30 (1.31).

Type material: Holotype male labeled Colombia: Ibague , Tolima [4 ° 26′N 75 ° 12′W]; VII-1984; Suaza-Giron Leg; ex. Baccharis floribunda (Ruiz and Pav. 1794) ( USNM) GoogleMaps . Paratypes, 1 male and 2 females, same data as holotype ( USNM) .

Distribution: Colombia.

Comments.—This species is unique within Tolono by having a very different color pattern: the dorsal surface is pale with dark markings as described above (the other Tolono species are predominately black with pale markings). This species also differs from T. decoratus and T. confusus by the lack of a pale band on each tibia (a faint, obscure, pale band occasionally present), and the absence of a pale, medial spot on the abdominal venter. The posterior margin of the pygophore is slightly more rounded with non-prominent posterolateral angles in this new species, whereas in T. decoratus the posterior pygophoral margin is more truncate with prominent posterolateral angles; this same structure is much more produced mesially in T. confusus (see figs. 2 and 3).

Etymology.—From the Latin pallidus meaning pale. This name is assigned to this species due to the predominant pale dorsal coloration with black markings, in contrast to the other species of the genus which are predominantly black dorsally, with pale markings ( Fig. 6).
