Etymology. The specific name “ fasciata ,” from the Latin “fascia” (band), refers to the dark bands of the pronotum.
Remarks. The placement of this new species in Ischasia Thomson, 1864 is somewhat problematic due to the presence of abundant erect setae on the apex of the metatibiae. Formerly, the presence of brush of setae on the apical region of metatibiae is the only reliable feature separating Ischasia from Phygopoda Thomson, 1864 . The new species also resembles those of the genus Phygopoides Peñaherrera-Leiva & Tavakilian, 2003 . However, the antennomere IV is longer than half of III, one of the features defining Phygopoides (antennomere IV very short, about as long as half of III). Therefore, we prefer to include this new species in Ischasia until reliable studies are conducted allowing the separation of these three genera.
Ischasia fasciata sp. nov. differs from the other species of the genus by the metatibiae with the apical setae somewhat forming brush (not forming in the other species of the genus). It is slightly similar to Ischasia mareki Peñaherrera-Leiva & Tavakilian, 2004 ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 52–57 ), but differs especially by the pronotum with three dark bands (two in I. mareki ).
