Genus Sandalodesmus Silvestri, 1902 View in CoL

Type species: Sandalodesmus salvadorii View in CoL ( Silvestri, 1895: 4, fig. 3), designated herein in accordance with ICZN Art.67.2. and Art.69.1., since the particular status of S. bertonii Silvestri, 1902 View in CoL is complex (see Hoffman 1982: 247).

Diagnosis: Males of Sandalodesmus differ from those of Oncoleptodesmus (the only other member of the tribe) by the presence of only two macroseatae on dorsal side of gonocoxae ( vs. several ones in Oncoleptodesmus ) and absence ( vs. presence) of spinulations associated with the lateral margin of the acropodite process (except in S. repandus ( Schubart, 1958)) (modified from Hoffman 1982).
