Distribution. Philippines.
Remarks. Ban & Ishikawa (2013) redescribed this species, S. valdezi , without resorting to the examination of the types. During the present study two type specimens ( lectotype male and paralectotype female, designation here) of S. valdezi borrowed from MZH were examined. These specimens did not match the redescription provided by Ban & Ishikawa thereby alluding that this was a case of misidentification. The species that was considered S. valdezi by Ban & Ishikawa is indeed an entirely different and undescribed species, that is described herein as S. planus sp. nov. below.
S. valdezi is similar to S. validus , but differs from the latter in the following combination of characters: female anterior pronotal lobe: posterior lobe 1:2 (vs. 1: 1.5 in S. validus ) ( Figs. 1a View FIGURE 1 ; 6a View FIGURE 6 ); tibiae without any annulations (vs. with two dark annulations); posterior margin of sternite VI straight (vs. weakly convex at middle) ( Figs. 4f View FIGURE 4 ; 6c View FIGURE 6 ); middle margin of two halves of sternite VII distinctly curved laterally and overlapped (slightly overlapped) ( Fig. 6c View FIGURE 6 ); the shapes of paramere and median projection of pygophore are also different ( Figs. 1e View FIGURE 1 ; 5c).
