( Figs 69–74 View FIGURES 69–74 )
Holotype. ( ♀) [ Japan] Okinawa Pref., Okinawajima Isl., Kunigami Vil., Yona , 20. V. 2007, K. Watanabe leg. ( Kanagawa).
Etymology. The species name refers to the collection site, Okinawajima Island.
Description. Female. Body length 8.3 mm. Fore wing 5.9 mm.
Head. Flagellum with 27 flagellomeres, filiform; 1 st flagellomere 2.4× as long as wide, 8 th flagellomere square, widest flagellomeres about square. Temple rather short, distinctly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.0× and OOD 1.0× ocellar diameter. Frons coarsely rugose-punctate. Face densely punctate, shining. Clypeus slightly convex, with sparse punctures; apical margin almost straight. Mandible with two teeth; ventral tooth much smaller than dorsal tooth, not bent inwards. MI 0.8. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina far from mandibular base, both carinae low.
Mesosoma . Notaulus impressed in frontal 0.2 of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate, punctures finer in anterior half and larger in posterior parts, shining. Mesopleuron densely rugose-punctate and with coarse longitudinal ridges; speculum punctate. Metapleuron densely rugose-punctate; juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum moderately and roundly elevated, as long as wide, with rather dense punctures, without lateral carina. Propodeum completely carinate, without apophysis; spiracle slit-shaped. Area superomedia hexagonal, 1.4× as long as wide; costula reaching its middle. Hind coxa densely punctate and with large scopa (0.5× coxal length) ventrally. Hind femur finely punctulate, 3.5× as long as wide. External surface of hind tibia without denticular spines. Claws simple. Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 2.0× their width; vein 2m-cu slightly distal to its middle. Vein 1cu-a interstitial.
Metasoma. Oxypyygous. Postpetiole moderately widened and coarsely punctate, without latero-median carina, median field moderately elevated. Gastrocoelus weakly impressed, with lateral longitudinal ridge. Thyridium small, transverse, 0.4× as wide as interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite 1.2× as wide as long. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate, dull. 4 th tergite densely punctate; following tergites with very fine setiferous punctures, shining. Ovipositor sheath reaching beyond metasomal apex by half length of 7 th tergite.
Color . Black. Palps and flagellomeres 8–11 dorsally ivory. Clypeus and median mandible dark reddish. Collar with ivory spot. Scutellum yellowish, reddish-brown basally. Tergites black; postpetiole and 2 nd tergite with reddish suffusion; 5 th tergite with small apical ivory spot, 6 th and 7 th tergites widely ivory dorsally. Legs brown; fore and mid coxae and trochanters with frontal ivory spots; fore tibia with yellow stripe frontally. Wings almost hyaline; pterostigma brown.
Male unknown.
Distribution. Japan (Okinawajima Isl.).
Remarks. In the key of the Vulgichneumon species of the Ryukyu Islands ( Momoi 1970), this new species runs to V. taiwanensis (Uchida, 1927) but differs by its smaller size, distinct scopa of hind coxa, ivory palps, and ± reddish suffusion of basal tergites.
