Barichneumon nipponicus var.

Material. [ Japan] Kagoshima Pref., Tokara Isls., Nakanoshima Isl., Nanatsu-vama, 1 ♀ 7. VI. 2005, J. Kantoh leg.; Kagoshima Pref., Tokara Isls., Nakanoshima Isl. , Mitake, 1 ♀ 7. VI. 2005, T. Mita leg. ( Kanagawa) .

Description. Female. Body length 4.5–4.8 mm. Flagellum with 25 segments. Hind femur 3.4× as long as wide, with sparse punctation in ventral third. External surface of hind tibia without denticular spines. 2 nd tergite 1.3× as wide as long. Flagellomeres 8–12 ivory dorsally; 6 th tergite with small apical or without ivory spot, 7 th tergite with dorsal ivory spot. Structure and coloration otherwise as described for B. nipponicus .

Remarks. The females from Nakanoshima island differ from the females collected in Yakushima and Okinawa islands mainly by their very small size, longer hind femur and slightly reduced ivory coloration of apical tergites. We have not included these specimens in the type series but propose them as small sized variants of B. nipponicus here.
