( Figs 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 )
Holotype. ( ♂) [ Japan] Kagoshima Pref.: Yakushima Isl., Malaise trap (H3), 250 m alt., 8–28. VI. 2007, T. Yamauchi et al. leg. ( Kanagawa).
Paratypes. ( 3 ♂) same data as holotype ( Kanagawa and coll. Riedel) .
Etymology. The species name refers to the completely ivory coxae.
Description. Male. Body length 5.5–6.0 mm.
Head. Flagellum with 24–25 flagellomeres, bristle-shaped; 1 st flagellomere 2.9–3.3× as long as wide. Tyloids on flagellomeres 7–11, long-oval, maximally 0.8× as long as their segments. Temple moderately and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.1× ocellar diameter. Temple, frons and face densely and coarsely punctate, shining. Clypeus moderately convex, with sparse punctures, shining; apical margin blunt, convex. Ventral mandibular tooth much smaller than dorsal tooth, not bent inwards. MI 0.1–0.2. Gena densely punctate, distinctly excavated ventrally; hypostomal carina lamelliform widened.
Mesosoma . Side of pronotum striate ventrally. Notaulus shortly impressed at frontal margin of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate, shining. Mesopleuron coarsely punctate, speculum smooth. Metapleuron rugose-punctate. Scutellum slightly convex, wider than long, with rather dense punctures and lateral carina in basal 0.2. Propodeal spiracle round. Area basalis with median tubercle. Area superomedia heart-shaped, slightly wider than long; costula reaching its middle. Area petiolaris long, with transverse rugae. Hind femur 3.5× as long as wide. Areolet pentagonal; frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 2.0× their width; vein 2m-cu reaching its middle. Vein 1cu-a slightly postfurcal. Nervellus of hind wing reclivous, intercepted at apical 0.7.
Metasoma. Postpetiole slightly widened, almost smooth and shining. Gastrocoelus indistinct.Thyridium slightly oblique, 0.2–0.3× as wide as interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite 1.4–1.5× as long as wide, granulate and with fine concentrical ridges in basal half.
Color . Black. Flagellum brownish, ochreous or yellowish ventrally. Palps ivory. Mandible centrally, clypeus, face and scape yellowish. Collar and hind edge of pronotum, tegula and subtegular ridge ivory. Tergites brownish, 2 nd to 6 th tergites with narrow ivory apical margins. Legs ochreous; all coxae and trochanters ivory; hind femur brownish; hind tibia blackish, with ± extended subbasal yellowish ring; hind tarsus blackish. Wings almost hyaline, pterostigma brown.
Female unknown.
Distribution. Japan (Yakushima Isl.).
Remark. Uchida (1924) described a Japanese male from Hokkaido as Aethecerus parianae . We have not seen the type material yet, but the new species differs from the original description of Ae. paranae ( Uchida, 1924: 232) by its ivory face and hind coxa, and the ivory marks on the mesosoma.
