Description. Female. Body length 6.5–7.5 mm.

Head. Flagellum with 21–22 flagellomeres, filiform; 1 st flagellomere 2.1–2.3× as long as wide and 0.9–1.0× as long as 2 nd flagellomere; 8 th flagellomere square, preapical flagellomeres as long as or slightly longer than wide. Temple moderately and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.3–1.4× ocellar diameter. Temple and frons densely punctate, shining. Face rugose-punctate, ± dull. Clypeus slightly convex, with sparse punctures, shining. MI 0.3.

Mesosoma . Mesoscutum, mesopleuron and metapleuron densely punctate, shining. Scuto-scutellar groove with distinct longitudinal ridges. Scutellum almost flat, about as long as wide, densely punctate, without distinct lateral carina. Area superomedia hexagonal, 1.2–1.4× as long as wide; costula reaching frontal to its middle. Hind coxa densely punctate, with short lamella postero-ventrally. Hind femur finely and densely punctate, 3.5–3.6× as long as wide.

Metasoma. Postpetiole slightly widened, without latero-median carina, almost smooth and shining medially, with sparse punctures laterally. Thyridium slightly oblique, 0.8–1.3× as wide as interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite 1.1× as long as wide, granulate and usually with fine longitudinal rugae, finely rugose or with transverse striae between thyridia, only granulate at apical margin, dull. 3 rd tergite granulate and dull.

Color . Black. Scape, pedicel and basal 2–4 flagellomeres usually reddish (rarely brownish), following segments brown or dark reddish, segments 7/8–9/11 ivory dorsally. Palps ivory, mandible except teeth yellowish. Tegula yellow. Tergites black; 2 nd to 4 th tergites reddish, often ± infuscate with reddish or yellowish apical bands. 5 th tergite reddish-brown or blackish. Legs red; fore and mid coxae and trochanters, sometimes also hind coxa yellow; hind femur in apical 0.1–0.3 and hind tibia in basal 0.2 and apical 0.3 infuscate; hind tarsus reddish or reddish-brown. Wings hyaline, pterostigma brown.

Male. Body length 6.0– 7.5 mm.

Flagellum with 22–25 flagellomeres, bristle-shaped; 1 st flagellomere 2.9–3.4× as long as wide and 1.0–1.1× as long as 2 nd segment. Tyloids on flagellomeres 9–11/12, long-oval, maximally 0.5× as long as and situated in basal half of their segments. OED 1.1× ocellar diameter. MI 0.2–0.4. Hind coxa densely punctate, without ventral lamella. Hind femur 3.6–3.7× as long as wide. 2 nd tergite 1.3–1.4× as long as wide. Structure otherwise as in female.

Color . Black. Scape yellowish or ivory, pedicel and flagellum brown or blackish. Palps, mandible basally and tegula ivory. Tergites black, sometimes 2 nd to 4 th tergites ± reddish, 2 nd to 6 th tergites often with reddish or yellowish apical margins. All coxae and trochanters yellow or ivory. Legs otherwise reddish-yellow; hind femur apically ± and hind tibia basally and apically ± infuscate; hind tarsus brownish. Wings almost hyaline, pterostigma brown.

Variation. In the females from Amamioshima, 2 nd to 4 th tergites are usually ± red, in females from Tokunoshima and Okinawa, colour of these tergites is mainly brownish or blackish, but with ± extended reddish or yellowish apical margins. In the females from Ishigakijima and Iriomote, the scapes are completely ivory ( var. albiscapus nov.) and the 2 nd tergite finely rugose, without longitudinal striation.

The morphology and coloration of the specimens from different locations are otherwise similar and do not support a separation of different species or subspecies in our opinion.

Distribution. Japan (Amamioshima Isl., Kakeromajima Isl., Tokunoshima Isl., Okinawajima Isl., Ishigakijima

Isl. and Iriomotejima Isl.), China and Taiwan. New record for Japan.
