Type species: Scolotydaeus bacillus Berlese, 1910 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. With characteristics of the family. Eyes present. Solenidia on legs and palptarsus erect. Setae ( u) of tarsi II–IV usually distinctly bifurcate. Always with three pairs of genital acetabulae.
Species included. The genus Scolotydaeus includes seven species: S. alexanderi ( Baker, 1949) comb. nov. from USA, S. anatolicus Dönel, Seeman and Doğan, 2012 from Turkey, S. bacillus Berlese, 1910 from Italy, S. corticicola Flechtmann, 1992 from Brazil, S. lootsi ( Theron et al.,1969) comb. nov. from South Africa , S. tauricus ( Kuznetsov, 1973) comb. nov. from Crimean peninsula, and S. uralensis sp. nov. from Southern Ural, Russia.
