Exactly intermediate between the parents; usually sterile and therefore constant, but fertile forms are known. Unknown in nature, as the parent species are allo­ p a tie, it is of obscure garden origin, widely cultivated in Britain and Ireland, less often elsewhere. 2n = 28. Naturalized in Britain, Ireland and France. [Br G a Hb.]
