Shoots suberect, forming fairly dense cushions; leaves scarcely coriaceous, somewhat hairy, cuneate to semicircular in outline, divided palmately into 5-11 segments. Flowers in a fairly compact, corymbose cyme; sepals linear-oblong, much longer than the hypanthium; petals 11-1 4x3-5 mm, white. Siliceous rocks, usually shaded. • S. Very variable, and composed o f four geographically isolated populations. Each of these has a generally distinctive facies, but variation is sufficient to bring about overlap of all characters, and they are therefore given subspecific rather than specific rank. 1 Lamina cuneate; segments forwardly directed, usually not more than twice as long as wide; petiole usually broad
