Stems procumbent to ascending, forming a m at or loose cushion. Leaves 5-9 x 3-6 mm, opposite, broadly obovate or suborbicular, obtuse, sessile, with a single hydathode, less coriaceous than in 93 and 94 and not lime-encrusted, often reddish beneath. Flowers 2-5(-8) in terminal corymbose cymes. Sepals ciliate, glandular-pubescent; petals reddish-purple or dull white; disc yellow, conspicuous; filaments whitish, shorter than petals; anthers pink to orange, eventually black. Damp screes, moraines and river-gravels. 2n = 26. • Alps. Au G a Ge He It. The typical plant has oblanceolate petals, 5-6 x 2 mm. In var. kochii Kittel ( subsp. maeropetala (Kerner) Rouy & Camus ) the petals are broadly elliptical, 6-9 x 4-5 mm. (z) Similar to (/z) but leaves coriaceous, alternate, often in rosettes.
