1. E. vesicaria (L.) Cav. , Descr. Pl. 426 (1802).

Usually hispid annual 20-100 cm. Leaves lyrate-pinnatifid (rarely pinnate), with large terminal lobe and 2-5 narrow lateral lobes on each side. Petals 15-20 mm, whitish or yellowish with violet veins. Siliqua 12-25 x 3-6 mm, erect; beak ensiform; pedicels short. Mediterranean region; cultivated as a salad plant and often naturalized, so that the native distribution is obscured.
