scientific name

Cochlearia Cochlearia
status

10. C. groenlandica L. , Sp. Pl. 647 (1753).

Biennial or perennial with many procumbent or ascending, stout, leafless stems 3-10 cm. Basal leaves reniform. Petals 3 mm, oblong, contracted at base into a distinct claw. Silicula 3-5-5 mm, ovoid, ellipsoidovoid or obovoid; style O-3-O-5 mm. 2n — 14. Arctic and subarctic Europe. Is Rs (N) Sb.

Very distinct on account of its leafless stems. Plants from several parts of Scotland have been referred to this species but have leafy stems, and petals more than 3 mm long.

There has been much confusion between 9 and 10; consequently their distribution is uncertain.
