(C. pinnata (Lam.) R.Br.). Perennial 30-60 cm; rhizome uniformly 4-10 mm in diameter, with lunate scale-leaves 1- 2 mm. Leaves usually 3 or more, remote, pinnate; the lower with 3-5 pairs of ovate-lanceolate, serrate, sparsely hairy or glabrescent leaflets; the uppermost with 2-3 pairs of similar leaflets. Petals 14-20 mm, white, pink or purplish. Siliqua 40-80x 3-5- 5 mm. 2« = 48. W. & C. Europe, from the Pyrenees to S.W. Germany, W. Switzerland and S.E. Alps (Monte Baldo); Appennini. G a Ge He Hs It [Be]. C. x digenca Gremii ( C. heptaphylla x pentaphyllos ) occurs where the parents grow together. It is sterile and morphologically intermediate between the parents, and spreads vegetatively.
