Stem up to 100 cm, simple or branched. Basal leaves with linear-oblong segments; cauline with linear segments. Inflorescence racemose; lower bracts dissected; bracteoles usually close to, and reaching beyond the base of the flower. Perianth-segments purplish-violet. Nectary 3-lobed, with bifid upper lobe. Follicle 15-20 x 5 mm, very abruptly contracted at apex; seeds reddish-brown. S. & E. part o f Iberian peninsula; S.E. Europe; locally naturalized elsewhere.
