Subglabrous perennial up to 60 cm. Leaves lanceolate, often narrowed into a short petiole; lower obtuse, upper acute or acuminate; midrib prominent; lateral veins obscure. Heads large, many-flowered; pedicels short; bracts herbaceous, about equalling flowers. Epicalyxscales ovate, aristate. Petal-limb purple, shortly bearded. From the Pyrenees to the E.
