Perennial up to 30 cm, with long rather slender, woody stock and freely branched flowering stems. Leaves slender, convolute; cauline 4-7 pairs. Flowers usually solitary; pedicels eventually divaricate. Epicalyx-scales 4-6, c. | as long as calyx, ovate, acuminate; margin scarious. Calyx 9-14 x 2-5-3 mm, nearly cylindrical. Petal-limb 4-6 mm, dentate, glabrous. ® N. W. Spain (Mino valley). Hs?Lu. Plants from N. Portugal, which have been identified with this species, have abruptly acuminate epicalyx-scales and larger calyces; they appear to be more closely related to 39, though with much longer leaves than are normal for that species.
