Perennial up to 90 cm; stems often decumbent below, branched above. Leaves linear-lanceolate. Flowers fragrant. Epicalyx-scales 2-4, ovate, acuminate or shortly awned, | as long as calyx. Calyx 15- 30 x 3-6 mm, narrowed upwards. Petal-limb (6-)15-30 mm, laciniate more than half-way to middle, pink or purplish, rarely white, bearded.
