(a) Subsp. squalidum (Lam.) Hultén View in CoL , Svensk Bot. Tidskr. 50: 434 (1956):
Plant 5-10 cm, mat-forming. Leaves up to 10 x 5 mm, elliptical to obovate, mostly rounded at apex, more or less lanate. Peduncles and pedicels densely glandular-hairy. Sepals c. 7 mm. Capsule not much longer than sepals. • Pyrenees.
Another plant with glandular peduncles was described from mountains of N.E. Albania as C. hekuravense Jâv. , Bot. Közl. 19: 18 (1921). According to the description it differs from (a) by its ovate, acute to acuminate leaves with short glandular hairs. Plants similar to (a) have also been recorded from the Alps and the Carpathians. Their taxonomic status needs further study.
