A densely papillose, somewhat fleshy, procumbent or ascending annual. Leaves often hastate. Sepals yellow above. Fruit with large tubercles near the top. 2« = 32. Commonly cultivated as a vegetable, naturalized in S. W. Europe. [Az Lu.] ( Australia , New Zealand.)
