Robust, erect, and larger in all its parts than (a). 2n = 54. Cultivated as a vegetable in S. & S.E. Europe and occasionally occurring as an escape.

P. grandiflora Hooker , Bot. Mag. 56: t. 2885 (1829), with large (4-5 cm) reddish or orange flowers, usually flore pleno, is a native of South America commonly grown in gardens. It is occasionally established on roadsides and in waste places in S. & S.C. Europe.
