Stems up to 2 m. Leaves glaucous, broadest at or above the middle, abruptly contracted to the acute apex; dorsal angle horny. Flowers c. 12 cm
in diameter, purple; stamens purple. Naturalized on the coasts of S. & S. W. Europe. [Ga Gr Hs It Lu Sa, probably elsewhere.] (5. Africa.)
