Perennial 60-170 cm. Basal leaves l |- 2i times as long as wide, oblong-ovate, papillose beneath, cordate at base, rounded or broadly acuminate at apex. Panicle open, branches solitary, arcuate-divaricate. Valves 5-7 x 3 -5-4 mm, ovate-triangular, with numerous hooked teeth developing early. 2« = 60. Clearings in mountain woods. Italy and Balkan peninsula. Al Gr It?Ju. (S.fV China westwards to Anatolia.)
