Annual, densely pubescent throughout. Stem 50-100 cm, erect, stout. Leaves up to 20 cm, ovate-acuminate, stalked, sometimes slightly cordate. Ochreae with green, leaf-like lobes on their distal margin. Flowers pink, in long, slender, moderately dense, branched spikes. Nut 3 mm, glossy, lenticular. Cultivated in gardens and locally naturalized, mainly in C. & S. Europe. [Au Cz G a Ge He Ho It Ju Lu Po Rm Rs (W, K, E).] (F. & S.E. Asia.)
