( C. ruthenica auct., non Bieb.).

Very like 1 but flowering stems 15-80 cm; plant not smelling of camphor; leaves 2-6 mm; perianth 2-2- 5 mm, villous-tomentose. W. Kazakhstan and adjacent parts of S.E. Russia. Rs (E). (C. & S. W. Asia.)

C. nestensis Turrill , Kew Bull. 1935: 142 (1935), described from N.E. Greece (near Xanthi), is doubtfully distinct from 2. It is said to have the flowers gynomonoecious, the female flowers with

perianth 1 -5-2- 5 mm, the hermaphrodite flowers with perianth c. 4 mm.
