Shrub, rarely a tree, up to c. 6 m, with erect branches. Twigs dull, more or less woolly. Buds somewhat patent, conical, reddish-brown. Leaves oblanceolate, grey-woolly with appressed, somewhat curved hairs; margin entire; lateral veins 7-8 pairs. Stipules usually absent. Bracts obovate, brown. Filaments hairy. Stigmas divergent, cylindrical, usually deeply cleft, longer than in 46. N. Fennoscandia, N. Russia. Fe N o Rs (N) Su.
