Tree up to 50 m; bark brown, fissured. Leaf-scars without a prominent pubescent band on their upper edge. Leaflets 6-12 cm, 15-23, ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, irregularly serrate, glabrescent above, pubescent and glandular beneath. Male catkins 5-15 cm. Fruit 3 -5-5 cm, globose or slightly obovoid, pubescent; stone ovoid, acute, strongly ridged, not splitting. Extensively plantedfor timber in parts of C. & E. Europe. [Au Cz Da Ge It Rm.] (E. North America.)
