Up to 12 m or more, with a narrow crown. Twigs slender, terete, glabrous, reddish-brown. Leaves 4-12 x 3-8 cm, rhombic-elliptic to obovate, abruptly acuminate, cuneate at the base, crenulate, glabrous; petiole 5-25 mm, reddish. Stamens 8. Planted for timber in C. Europe; occasionally for ornament elsewhere. [Au Cz Ga Ge Ho Hu Ju Rm Rs.] (N. China.)
