4. A. monanthes L. View in CoL , Mantissa 130 (1767).
Rhizome-scales narrow, attenuate, with dark centralstripe. Leaves 20-30(-45) cm, often with proliferating buds at base of rhachis; petiole | as long as lamina, dark reddish-brown, glabrous; lamina linear-elliptical, light green, pinnate; pinnae 0-5-1 cm, oblong to rhombic, entire to crenulate-dentate, base truncate, apex rounded. Sori oblong, usually singly on pinna. Açores. Az. (Africa and C. America.)
Plants of A. monanthes from Madeira are apogamous, with 2/7= 108. It is likely that plants from Açores are similar.
