Rhizome caespitose; scales filiform, consisting of black opaque cells, except occasionally for a narrow border of pellucid cells. Leaves 4-12 cm; petiole and rhachis reddish-black with green apex, dull, densely covered with glandular hairs, persistent when dead and forming wiry tufts; lamina length ofleaf, narrow-elliptic, pinnate, thin, bright green, covered above and beneath with glandular hairs; pinnae 0-5-1 cm, ovate, truncate or broadly cuneate at base, incisocrenate to lobed. 2« = 144.
