Rhizomes short, ascending. Leaves tufted; lamina 1 - to 3-pinnate, the ultimate segments with acuminate, bristle-pointed teeth. Sori orbicular; indusium peltate.
P. falcatum (L. fil.) Diels ( Cyrtomium falcatum (L. fil.) C. Presi ), a native of E. Asia, and P. munitum (Kaulfuss) C. Presi and P. acrostichoides (Michx) Schott , natives of North America, are naturalized in a few isolated localities.
